September 11, 2001 Memorial

The Liberty Corner Fire Company built a 9/11 memorial in the front of our firehouse. The focal point of the memorial is a set of stairs replicating a staircase in the World Trade Center where so many lives were saved and others lost. On each side of the staircase is a brick walkway designed to represent the Twin Towers. This walkway leads you to the front of the memorial. Each step of the staircase displays actual radio transmissions from firefighters of the New York City Fire Department as they were climbing up a staircase to perform rescues. The top step of the staircase displays a piece of recovered steel from the Twin Towers. To help fund the memorial, there were 343 memorial bricks, representing the 343 FDNY firefighters who gave their lives in the terrorist attack, available for purchase. Some bricks still remain.
