Brings Home 5 Trophies from the 9th Annual Firefighter Olympics October 20, 2007
On Saturday, October 20, 2007, the Liberty Corner Fire Company placed first in the Best Team category of the 9th Annual Firefighter Olympics sponsored by the Hillsborough Twp. Volunteer Fire Co. No. 2. The event, which is open to all firefighters 18 years of age who have completed Firefighter Level 1 training, is comprised of 5 events. All five events are performed in full turnout gear while breathing air from an SCBA pack. The first event is the high-rise pack carry in which a firefighter must carry 100’ of 1¾" hose to the top of a five story tower. Once at the top, the firefighter must hoist a rope carrying a 45 lb. roll of hose to the top story of the tower. The firefighter then descends down the tower where he uses a 9 lb shot mallet to drive a 165 lb steel beam a horizontal distance of 5 ft. The firefighter must then advance a 140ft. where he picks up the nozzle of the 1¾" charged hose line and advances it a distance of 75ft., opens the nozzle and hits a target. The final event is the victim rescue where the firefighter drags a 175lb Rescue Randy mannequin a distance of 100 ft.
Award categories for the event included Best Team (average sum of three best individual times from the same fire company), Best Individual, Best Individual Over 40 and Best Tag Team (in which each member of a 5 member team is responsible for one of the five events).
Of the fire companies that participated in the event from throughout the state, Liberty Corner placed first in the Best Team category for the third year in a row. Among the other categories, Liberty Corner firefighters Glenn Hart and Eric Murphy placed second and third respectively in the Best Individual category while Pete Aprahamian placed first in the Best Individual Over 40 category. The Liberty Corner Tag Team, comprised of Pete Aprahamian, Carl Blanchard, Glenn Hart, Mike LaCosta and Eric Murphy, placed third among 8 companies.
Mutual Aid FAST Request-101
Ballantine Rd. Bernardsville August
3, 2007
On August 3, at approximately 11:01 pm, the Liberty Corner Fire Company was dispatched to provide mutual aid into Bernardsville for a working structure fire at 101 Ballantine Road. The three-story wood frame residence had a fire in its’ attic space after being struck by lightning. LCFC responded by with a Firefighter Assist and Search Team. The Bernardsville Fire Company was able to confine the fire to the attic space with one ladder, three engines, one rescue, and one tanker. Also on scene was one additional engine, tanker, and ladder truck. Company operations included the Bernardsville Fire Company, the Liberty Corner Fire Company, the Mendham Fire Company, and the Far Hills-Bedminster Fire Company.
Washington DC Parade July 4, 2007
This July 4th, Liberty Corner Fire Company was invited to celebrate the nations birthday by taking part in the parade on Constituation Avenue. One of only two Volunteer fire companies invited, Liberty Corner was honored to be able to march proudly representing Brenards Township. Over 30 members and 2 pieces of apparatus traveled to Washington to march. We were welcomed by the members of Silver Springs Station 1 who were kind enough to allow us to utilize their station to clean and store the trucks before and after the parade.
Bail Out Training May 20, 2007
On Thursday, May 17 and Sunday, May 20, twenty-four members of Liberty Corner Fire Company participated in a 10 hour training program on the Petzl EXO Personal Safety System. This system and the related training provides firefighters with a means to bail out the window of a building should there be no other means of escape. The funding for the purchase and related training of the Petzl Personal Safety System was made possible by a generous grant from Fireman’s Fund.
The members of Liberty Corner Fire Company would like to take this opportunity to thank Fire Ground Technologies who supplied us with the system and the related 10 hours of training as well as Fireman’s Fund for providing us with the funding for this life saving equipment.

Mutual Aid - 310 Enclave Ln (The

At 10:13 PM on April 09, the members of LCFC were requested to respond Mutual Aid to a structure fire, at 310 Enclave Ln. in the Bedminster section of the Hills to assist Station 29, Far Hills-Bedminster Fire Department. Upon arrival heavy fire was showing in both adjoining duplex units, and impinging on the side and rear adjacent units. A few small fires flared up near adjacent building caused by the sparks from the fire. These were quickly controlled and did not extend to any additional structures. LCFC was deployed to provide a Firefighter Assist and Search Team and operational support. Due to the heavy fire damage, evacuated and unoccupied structures and the partial collapse of the light-weight construction, fire operations were defensive and the exterior attack quickly brought the blaze under control. Crews spent several hours working on overhaul checking for hot spots.

Fire Company recieves Grant
March 9, 2007
On Thursday March 8th the members of the Liberty Corner Fire Company were honored to receive a grant of approximately $24,000 to help fund safety equipment for the firefighters. The grant money will be used to acquire an additional thermal imaging camera to assist firefighters with searching for downed firefighters and victims. In addition the company will utilize the grant for equipment to allow firefighters to rapidly exit a structure from upper floors in the event of an emergency situation. Officials from Fireman’s Fund Insurance presented the grant check to Chief Marc Friedman and the officers of the Fire Company in a ceremony held at the firehouse. Mayor Mary Pavlini and former Mayor John Malay were on hand to thank Fireman’s Fund for their generous support, and to voice support for the work the volunteers do for the community.
LCFC to March in Washington DC
July 4th Parade March

This year, America’s July 4 Independence Day celebration will be even more memorable as one of our local, all-volunteer fire and rescue companies travels to Washington, DC to march in America’s 2007 Independence Day Parade.
The Liberty Corner Fire Company of Bernards Township has been extended the privilege of participating in the parade, which starts at Constitution Avenue and 7th Street in the nation’s Capitol, travels along the National Mall, and ends at the Washington Monument.
The Parade, which annually draws a street audience of over 300,000 spectators, consists of invited bands, military and specialty units, floats, and VIPs. Liberty Corner will be one of only 20 specialty units invited from all over the US to particpate in the parade.
Chief Marc Friedman stated, “It is a true honor for us to participate in this year’s parade, especially since we are an all volunteer fire company.” Other units in the parade consist of 18-20 marching bands (including fife and drum corps), 15 floats, and 15 celebrity participants (broadcast and recording artists, local and national dignitaries and officials).
This will be a three-day event for the Fire Company; members will travel to the D.C. area the day before to clean and prepare the apparatus for the parade.
The equipment will be stored at nearby fire stations in Silver Spring, Maryland. Two apparatus,: a Seagrave Pumper and a Pierce Rescue Truck, along with an honor guard and approximately 20 members will particpate in the parade.

LCFC Places 1st overall at annual
Firefighter Olympics October

On Saturday October 21,2006, members of the Liberty Corner Fire Company participated in the 2006 Annual Firefighter Olympics hosted by the Hillsborough Twp. Vol. Fire Co. #2. Firefighters from companies around the state competed for several titles in this years events. Members competed in both the Individual (where each member competes for the best time in five activities), and Tag team events (where a five-person team competes with each member performing one activity). The Liberty Corner Fire Company received 1st place Overall. Firefighter Eric Murphy received 2nd place in the "individual" competition, 2nd Assistant Chief Peter Aprahamian received the award for the "Best over 40" category, and Station 40 placed 3rd in the "Tag Team" competition.
Mutual Aid - 66 Gates Ave Long

Liberty Corner was called for mutual aid to assist Long Hill Township fire units. Upon arrival of 40-104, fire was still active in second floor of 1.5 story wood frame Cape Cod style residence. Station 40 stood by with Firefighter Assist and Search Team, while additional members went to work on the fire. We are happy to have had the opportunity to assist our brothers in Long Hill with thier job.

Tri-County Firematics Competition
June 10, 2006
On June 11, members of LCFC had the privilege of competing in the Tri-County Firematics competition, with nine other companies in the area. We worked hard to make our town proud, placing first overall. In the three events, members placed second in the single hose lay, second in the double hose lay and forth in the ladder competition. The members of Liberty Corner fire would like to thank all the teams who participated and congratulate Basking Ridge Fire and Bernardsville Fire who placed second and third respectively.
Teams competing: Liberty Corner Fire, Basking Ridge Fire, Far Hills- Bedminster Fire, Bernardville Fire, Green Village Fire, Mendham Fire, Martinsville Fire, New Vernon Fire and Chatham Borough.
We would like to extend a special thanks to the members of Peapack - Gladstone Fire Company for hosting the event this year.
Brush Fire - Byron Drive
April 20 , 2006
At 6:00 PM on April 20, LCFC was called out for a reported Brush Fire in the area of 5 Byron Drive. Upon arrival we found the fire extending to a near by fence. With assistance from New Jersey Forest Fire service, the fire was quickly extinguished and all hot spots were cooled to prevent rekindling.

At 5:26 PM on April 18, the members of LCFC were requested to respond to a reported structure fire, at 7 Encampment Drive(Cresmont Highlands Condos.) to assist station 29, Far Hills-Bedminster Fire Department. Also assisting, Bernardsville and Peapack-Gladstone Fire CompaniesThe fire was quickly brought under control and held to only two rooms of the fire unit. We assisted in forcing entry to adjoining units and assure there were no occupants trapped and there was no extension from the fire. All around this was a great job by all companies and Liberty Corner was happy to assist.

On the morning on April 18, members of Liberty Corner Fire along with thousands of other fire, police and emergency services personel attended the funeral mass for our fallen firefighter brother, Kevin Apuzzio. Our company would like to send our deepest simpathy and best wishes for the family and friends of Kevin as well as the members of East Franklin's station 27. Kevin lost his life while performing a rescue at a house fire on April 11. Station 27 is currently collecting donation for a memorial for the fallen firefighter.

In the early morning of April 6, 2006 the fire company was dispatched to a water flow alarm at Lyons Mall located at 445 South Finley Ave. Upon arrival firefighters discovered a smoke condition and sprinkler activation in the unit formerly occupied by the Nicolo restaurant. The situation was quickly brought under control by the personnel on scene. The restaurant sustained heavy smoke and water damage from the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the local authorities.

On the morning of March 27, 2006, Members of LCFC were called to assist with a reported room and contents fire in the Countryside condo development. Basking Ridge Fire Company called for mutual Aid when arrival to see apparent smoke on the exterior of the residence. Upon arrival LCFC began searching the adjoining units and assisting with fire operations and overhaul. Also joining to assist were the Lyons VA fire company, Far HIlls - Bedminster Fire Company and the Bernardsville Fire Company. The members of Station 40 would like to thank Basking Ridge Fire Company for the oppurtunity to assist and hope we can work together again in the future.

On the morning of March 11, 2006, Members of LCFC were given the opportunity to drill in a residence on Galloping Hill Rd. We were able to utilize the residence to hone our skills in Fire Ops, search and rescue, FAST and ventilation. The fire company appreciates any opportunity to develop skills that are often not tested. This was a good chance to practice old skills and develop new ones.
On the morning of February 2, 2006, the members of LCFC were dispatched to a reported Chimney fire on Jamestown Road in the Spring Ridge Condominium complex. Upon arrival our engine noticed visible fire from the chimney extending to the room. We immediately call for both the Lyons VA and Far Hills / Bedminster ladder trucks for assistance. We attempted an aggressive roof as well as interior attack before structural collapse caused us to fall back and allow the ladders make some progress with an exterior attack before we made another attempt at the interior. The fire was held to the two units and was not allowed to progress past the fire wall. LCFC would like to thank the members of Lyons VA, Far Hills/Bedminster, Warren’s Mt. Bethel, Bernardsville and Basking Ridge Fire Companies for their assistance with the operations.

On January 28, 2006, firefighters from Liberty Corner partnered but with Neighboring Millington, Sterling and members from the Lyons VA Hospital FD to drill in a soon to be demolished home in Millington. We went over basic rescue, ventilation, FAST ops and mutual aid procedures.
All departments work well achieving success on all evolutions and showed how the departments involved can work together if the need ever arises in the future.
On the morning of January 28, 2006, the members of station 40 were called to service on Route 78 West for a fully involved car fire, upon arrival the members quickly setup and again prevailed with a quick knock down. Our busy January continued and once again we were able to rise to the challenge.
On Friday, January 27, 2006, LCFC came to the aid of neighboring Warren. Our company quickly mobilized to assist with extrication and setup for a Medivac at exit 36 on eastbound Route 78. The accident involving two cars and a tractor trailer claimed two lives. A third was medivaced to a local trauma center where she is currently in stable condition. Upon arrival, the istuation had been brought under control and after some brief help from Rescue 40-151, we returned. LCFC proudly welcomes any calls for assistance from our neighboring communities and hope that we will be able to serve our neighbors again soon.
On Sunday, January 15, 2006, LCFC donated our retired 1983
Pierce Dash Pumper to the New Galilee Volunteer Fire Company of
Pennsylvania. The
members
of New Galilee were recently the victims of arson, during which they
lost their station along with all of their equipment and apparatus. We
were lucky enough to be in the position to help our fellow firefighters
return to service.
8 members of the New Galilee Company drove all night on Sunday to arrive at 7 AM to pick up the truck with some of our old equipment. We had the privilege of breaking bread with these members before they departed for their long journey home. The old engine will definitely go to good use and hope to see the company successfully rebuild over the next year.

On Friday, January 6, 2006, Liberty Corner Fire Company was called to a confirmed structure fire at 27 Monarch Circle in the Spring Ridge Complex. Our member's along with members from the Lyons VA fire department responded with the knowledge of a possible entrapment in the residence. Upon arrival primary search teams entered the dwelling to try and locate the occupant while suppression teams began bringing the blaze under control. Within 5 minutes the flames had been knocked down, contained to the single unit.
Unfortunately the occupant had succumbed to smoke inhalation prior to our arrival.

On January 2, 2006, Liberty Corner Fire Company was dispatched to an alarm activation at building 3 within the Fellowship Village adult community. Patrol on-scene confirmed flames in the residence. Upon arrival, our members quickly extinguished the blaze causing damage to only the kitchen cabinets and tile.
The owner reported her missing dog, which was later found unharmed under the bed
